The sad news going around in the world of wrestling is the recent passing of Randall Mario Poffo, also known in the WWE and WCW community as the “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Poffo was 58 years old.
Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he suffered a heart attack and lost control of the vehicle, swerving across incoming traffic before finally colliding with a tree. While Randy did not survive the incident, his wife Lynn, also a passenger, survived with minor injuries.
The Macho Man will leave a pro wrestling legacy as a 2-time WWE Champion, a 1987 King of the Ring, a 4-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and a Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame, among many others. Clearly, Randy Savage is a big loss to several generations of wrestling fans, old and new.
And so, a fitting tribute. Well not really, but “Macho Man” is a wrestling story we’d love to tell our kids someday, so here’s how we would like to remember the late wrestling icon.
