We're no Pinoy Rock journal but this story hit us pretty hard. We respect everyone concerned and we continue to support everyone involved in their upcoming projects. [firstpara]
Roughly two months after NU signed off, Pinoy Rock witnesses another end: Sugarfree’s Ebe Dancel has left Sugarfree, FHM.com.ph learned via text last Friday, 7 January.
“Dear family and friends,” the message began, “I value our relationship and I don’t want you to hear it from anyone else. I’m leaving Sugarfree at the end of February. Atin muna please until the band announces it in few hours.”
And in a few hours, indeed, Dancel made the same announcement via twitter, as well as on the band's Facebook fan page and the band’s website.
“Dear friends, Im leaving Sugarfree at the end of February. Please come to my final shows with them. Im grateful for your love and support,” he tweeted at 5:12pm Friday.
Apart from announcing the sad turn-of-events, a news item on Sugarfree’s website, also informed fans that the band expresses support in “Ebe’s pursuits” and that “Sugarfree will continue its own musical journey.”
The same message was posted on Sugarfree’s Facebook wall.
Sugarfree has been at it for a good 11 years. They first made their presence singles “Mariposa” and “Telepono” receiving good airtime on NU. They finally burst into the mainstream in 2003 with their well-received debut, Sa Wakas. To date, they have released four records.
In October last year, Dancel signed a contract with Warner Music Philippines "sans his Sugarfree bandmates," reports Manila Bulletin. According to the same Manila Bulletin report, Dancel was to start recording a solo record in October. Dancel is also a member of Row 4, an all-star band composed of Parokya's Chito Miranda, Rico Blanco, Top Suzara, Yael Yuzon, and Gabby Alipe.
Well, mga ser, this is a sad turn of events. And though, it’s not completely accurate, this song, your song sings our grief best.
