Allow us to give the city of Marikina the kudos it deserves for being home to a legion of the finest shoe creations ever made. And while we’re at it, there’s this one event we’ve been hearing about that’s so splendid people, especially girls, must know about it.
In line with the arrival of the city’s Sapatos Festival this October, hundreds of women will have an opportunity to do a marathon run in heels, courtesy of the Tour de Takong – a stiletto race that will take place on November 18 at the SHOE AVENUE in Marikina City.
The race will be held on the stretch of the said venue, starting on the Teatro Marikina and finishing in front of the Cityhood Park, which approximately covers only 500 meters in distance. See, it’s not that big of a pain!
There are only three race rules: (1) The race is open for Filipina girls ages 18 and up; (2) Stiletto shoes of any kind and design can be used as long as the heel is at least 3 inches high and no more 1.5 centimeters in diameter at the tip; and (3) Stilettos must not be taped to the foot. The height of the winners’ heels and the diameter of its tip will be checked by the judges after the race.
Check-in time will be 5:45 am to 6:45 am, with the gun start taking place at exactly 7 in the morning. Typical running outfits are encouraged, but since girls racing in heels are a site to see in itself, special awards will be given to those who will don the most fabulous outfits. An FHM tip: you can never go wrong with hot girls running in short skirts.
The 1st place winner will receive P15k, the 2nd placer will get P10k, while the 3rd placer will take home P5k. Cash prizes are also in store for the special awardees – the SHOE-perstar, the SHOES-yal, the MISS SHOE-niverse, the SHOE-nique, and our personal favorite, the SHOE Sexy for this Race award. Ultimately cheesy but easy money!
Free registrations are available at the Marikina City Hall lobby, Marikina Sports Park marketing office, and the City Council Secretariat Office from September 26 to November 11. To all the ladies who are about to join this event: break a leg! Atse-tse!
