Stinky PUV Drivers To Be Fined By LTFRB

The question now is: How the hell will they enforce such a subjective law?

Whether you ride a tricycle, jeepney, bus, or cab, you know that being a commuter can be a real challenge. You don't only have to deal with the pollution, traffic, fellow angry commuters, but also, erm, stinky manongs. Fortunately, you can now check off one of these struggles from your list.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) are targeting public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers who have poor hygiene.

We can see their point here: Obviously, this is the only problem they are capable of solving it sucks to be seated behind/beside a foul-smelling driver, with the wind pushing the scent right into your nostrils. While there have been no specific details on the date of enactment neither the specific amount of the fines, an article on GMA Network dated January 13 reported that "Violators of the rules on grooming face stiff fines." We pray that the drivers have all received the memo for our noses' sake.

In the same article, Land Transportation Office chief Roberto Cabrera also pointed out the importance of PUV drivers wearing the right clothes while plying their route, beyond the offensive appearance or smell.

Cabrera said: "Mas restrictive po ang pag-apak po ng gas and break. There are studies, tests conducted, that could actually result in an accident kapag hindi maayos ang kasuotan sa paa natin."

The action came after a report about an Indonesian company conducting smell tests on all taxi drivers. They are made to stand in front of the electric fan with their arms stretched to their sides. A staff member would then smell and judge whether they pass or not.
