A from a dude who retrieves his sword from his flesh, to lethal SIM cards, Underpass is set to haunt you this Halloween. The Underpass is a collection of four horror graphic novels written by acclaimed writers such as Budjette Tan (of Alamat fame), National Books Award Nominated and Palanca Award winner David Hontiveros, comic book writer and artist Gerry Alanguilan; and drawn by artists like Kajo Baldisimo and Ian Sta. Maria.

The stories are set in a city not unlike Manila (one is set in Antipolo, actually), which only make them even more hauntingly familiar than usual. Gerry Alanguilan’s story, entitled “The Sim,” revolves around a SIM card, which, he says in his website “was sparked by my picking up a SIM card in a tricycle I was riding a few months ago. I wondered what was in it, and as soon as I plugged it into a cellphone well…” Writer Budjette Tan and artist Kajo Baldisimo manages to squeeze your favorite rag, FHM, alongside classic Philippine mythology creatures like tiyanaks and mananaggals, in their story “The Clinic.”

It is interesting, to say the least. This full-color anthology is Summit Media’s first foray into comics. Click through the emag to get an exclusive sneak-peek to Underpass.

Underpass (P175) will be launched at the Komikon on Sunday, 18 October. It will then be available in all leading bookstores by 21 October.
