The Special Weapons and Armed Tactics (SWAT) personnel were forced to apprehend one of their own after a neophyte police officer started firing his gun inside the Manila Police District (MPD) headquarters on Sunday afternoon.
The suspect was identified as Police Officer 1 Vincent Paul Solares who is detailed at the MPD station 11 in Divisoria, the Inquirer reported.
Before he went amok, Solares was seen taking down all the picture frames with portraits of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and started breaking them.
He then pulled out his gun and started firing indiscriminately when his colleagues called out his attention, prompting the cops on duty to call in the SWAT. Solares surrendered after 20 minutes when he realized that he was far outnumbered and outgunned.
Philstar noted that he threatened to kill everyone he saw wearing orange shirts—Estrada’s campaign color—before going berserk at the MPD headquarters
The suspect is currently detained at the General Assignment Investigation Section of the MPD headquarters while charges are being prepared against him.
