The public almost lost popular ride-sharing service providers Grab and Uber after the government found several violations that could possibly strip these companies of their right to operate.

Both transportation network companies have admitted to their lapses, but reasoned that they were addressing a public need in providing an alternative to traditional options like taxis and buses, which have long been a source of commuting complaints.

Fortunately, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) decided against shutting down the operations of both companies since it saw the need for these kinds of services. However, they did fine each company P5 million over multiple violations, including letting their drivers operate without permits.

Both Grab and Uber have accepted the penalty, but this didn’t seem to sit well with netizens who expressed their frustration over the LTFRB’s move. Here are some social media reactions on the issue:
