The pop fabulist returns with another angle on mysticism. This time though, Coelho plays up a clash of philosophical thoughts, moral parables, and spiritism. The book centers on supposedly divine damsel with a gypsy past, Athena. Her conflicting thoughts on church and religion as well as her tendency to be possessed by higher beings from time to time cause her to put up an ispiritista cult much like ours. This deceptively simple novel carries it more complexities and twists as you go deeper to its pages. – Charmaine Z. Chanco
