As much as the electorate is sick and tired of cheap tricks and superficial campaign methods, most local politicians can't help but resort to these shoddy attempts at self-promotion.
One may surmise that elections are not just popularity contests anymore, but in every intelligent suffragist, there are 10 voters casting their ballots for someone who solely had left a lasting impression on them, no matter how frivolous a candidate's antics were.
For the sake of a much more educated decision-making and responsible voting, FHM presents "Things Politicos Do For Votes," a unique election series that will put the spotlight on the unnecessary absurdities Filipino politicians shamelessly do during the campaign period. This is gonna be fun!
Campaign material should have a place in advertising classes, really.
Political TV ads, for one, would make good case studies on what to do and what not to do in video-based propaganda, and the diverse styles (Leila de Lima's) and strategies (Mar Roxas') employed when producing such. Not to mention the level of absurdity in those two examples...
If school officials are to put this idea up for consideration, they might want to take a look at senatorial candidate, Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo's new TVC. The congressman, known for his reserved disposition and (smokin' hot) wife Shalani Soledad who is as meek as him, apparently knows how to have a good laugh, as seen in this hilarious bit:
The good thing with Romulo's ad is that its visually arresting and whimsical execution actually doesn't defeat its "Iskolar Ng Bayan" purpose. Although a Shalani cameo certainly wouldn't have hurt...
