Trump's Victory Might Be Bad For OFWs, BPO Sector

But there's a potential upside, too

A political analyst warned that Donald Trump’s win in the US elections might spell disaster for our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and the thriving local business process outsourcing (BPO) industry among others.

According to Ramon Casiple, Executive Director of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reform (IPER), this all boils down to Trump being an unknown political factor.

“If we go by his campaign statements, he would go for an isolationist, America-first foreign policy. This may be bad news for OFWs, BPO, dependability in security alliance, regional alliance.”


But Casiple also said that a Trump-led US government may provide a good opportunity for the country to reestablish its weakening ties with our longtime allies.

“Philippines is in position to take advantage with its independent foreign policy and opening a new door to the US via a new Trump government.”

Trump was announced the winner after receiving the vote of 276 states as opposed to his rival, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 218.
