After three months of jousting legalities, the Supreme Court (SC) voted 9-5 on Tuesday in favor of allowing former president Ferdinand Marcos to be laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City.
As expected, the SC’s ruling on the issue, which has divided the nation, received massive reactions including those from politicians and other personalities.
Needless to say, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos and former Senator Bongbong Marcos, Jr. were both pleased with the high court’s decision.
Some government branches also released a statement:
Armed Forces of the Philippines
Others called on the public to respect the SC’s decision:
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez
Davao City Representative Karlo Nograles
However, a handful of politicians, personalities and institutions were openly against the decision.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros for her part delivered a privilege speech in Senate where she expressed her dismay over the SC’s ruling.
Others also shared her dismay including the following:
Vice President Leni Robredo
Sen. Kiko Pangilinan
Sen. Leila de Lima
Sen. Bam Aquino
Sen. Joel Villanueva
News anchor Karen Davila
Commission on Elections Director James Jimenez
Various congressmen
