With only a week to go before Christmas, we’re all undeniably stoked and in the mood to party. Satisfy your stoked-ness at these cool events we’ve lined up for you this weekend.
Start the weekend right with a good dose of the right music over at Penguin Bar in Makati. On December 17, it’s Kalayo and Sugar Hiccup providing you with a wave of melodies.
Mobster Manila and Half Baked headlines the following night’s gig, December 18.
Over at 70s Bistro in Quezon City, fun nights are up ahead as well with their trademark Friday nights with The Jerks on the 17th.
Saturday is just as fun of course, with Coffeebreak Island and Dong Abay taking to the stage.
Nearby at Route 196 in Katipunan, your favorite Terno bands will be flocking to the place as another Terno Night happens on the 17th.
Saguijo has got the Christmas Party fever as they host the Sonic Boom Christmas Party on the 17th, the Terno Inferno Christmas Party on the 18th.
The last one’s not a Christmas Party but we bet it’s still going to be rocking, because on the 19th, Curbside will be launching their EP. Sunday night gigs are the chillest!
Never one to let other bars have more gigs than them, Obsidian Bar and Grill in Ortigas will be having a jam-packed weekend too. Outerlimits Productions will be featuring Flicker Fusion, Naked Lights, Dhruva Tara, Maryzark, Uries Attack, Talata and many more on December 17.
Belly of the Beast handles the band roster on the 18th, and on the 19th, it’s going to be a PR Happy Go Lucky Productions.
Last but not the least, we have B-Side in Makati. The place will be hosting Maynila Mahal Kita December 17 featuring Pupil, Chase, Chiba, Loonie, Elemnto, DJ All-Rock, The Dorques, Cosmic Love, Skies of Emer, Island Rudeboi, and Tropical Depression.
On the next night, December 18, Manimal: Underground Dance Music happens featuring DJ Wof (UK), DJ Justin De Guzman (P.I.) and DJ Tom Turner (Switz). Entrance is free. No cover charge.
The Light Show
Celebrating its second anniversary this December, the art gallery Manila Contemporary will be hosting an exhibit called “The Light Show” from December 11, 2010 to January 9, 2011.
The gallery will be featuring "light sculptures and objects that transform the gallery into a welcoming lounging space,” by conceptual artist and curator Katya Guerrero together with twelve other impressive artists including Kris Abrigo, Juan Alcazaren, Bea Camacho, Jin Joson, Michael Manalo, Lui Medina, Jet Melencio, Wawi Navarroza, Kaloy Olavidez, Trek Valdizno, Costantino Zicarelli, and Brendan Kellogg.
Guerrero challenged the participating artists by asking the “What is light?” Want to see how the artists responded to that question, then check out Manila Contemporary now, located at 2314 Pasong Tamo Extension, Brgy. Magallanes, Makati City.

A Gift of Jazz featuring Hiromi Uehara
One of Japan’s best jazz pianist and composers, Hiromi Uehara will be performing live on December 17, 8 p.m. at the Grand Sunset Pavilion of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City. Expect nothing but pure jazz delights from an artist who has already received numerous awards for her music including Jazz Album of the Year Award (2003); Horizon Award (2004); Album of the Year in Swing Journal’s 2005 Readers Poll and Best Jazz Act at the Boston Music Awards and the Guinness Jazz Festival’s Rising Star Award in 2006.

Saturday Hysteria at Kyss
One of the newest parties in town is also one of the best, and you’ve got to experience it for yourself.
Check out Hysteria at Kyss every Saturday, 9 p.m. at Kyss Restaurant and Lounge Bar, 5343 General Luna St., Makati Avenue, Makati City. Hosted by DJ Johnnyverse and Revolution, with music by DJ Skratchmark, a Hysteria night is never short on awesomeness.

On December 17 and 18, you can catch and watch the very best folk dances the world has to offer. Happening at the CCP Main Theater, CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City, Beyond Folklore II: Fiesta Folkloriada is an international dance festival that pays tribute to classical folk dancing.
It will feature selected performers and artists from different dance groups worldwide. Colombia, Korea, Singapore, Greece, and Turkmenistan are the participating countries.
The December 17 show starts at 8 PM, while the December 18 show has an earlier start at 3 PM.
