Jack Daniel’s The JD Set at B-Side
First heard in the US and UK, The JD Set will finally land on Philippine shores to give seven unsigned bands the chance to reach a greater audience.
The first leg of the program will be held on February 4 at B-Side in Makati where 14 bands will try to outperform one another.
The 14 bands are Assembly Language, Blackmanika, Blue Boy Bites Back, Cosmic Love, Freia, Fade Into Oblivion, Jack Versus the Crab, Kelevra, Mr. Bones & the Boneyard Circus, Paramita, Playphonics, Paranoid City, Stories of Now, and Thy Holy Water. They will then play for four weekends from February 18 to April 1.
And after this series of events, seven will be chosen through online voting, which will then be revealed on April 16. Of the seven, one will be chosen that The JD Set c/o Sonicboom will support for the following year, and get to tour with Urbandub in Bali, Indonesia.
Entrance to the event is free. There will be an open bar on Jack Daniel's at 8 p.m.
Janet Jackson Live in Manila
Manila has really become a concert destination, and this weekend it’s going to be one of the queens of pop, Janet Jackson. Catch her as she plays all her number one hits at at the Number Ones Up Close and Personal Tour which will be held on February 4, 8 p.m. at the PICC Plenary Hall, CCP Complex, Pasay City.

On February 4, Friday, over at Penguin Bar in Makati, Juan Pablo Dream and Maria Cafra will be playing. Just nearby at Handlebar Grill, it’s a reggae night headlined by Coffee Break Island.
On the next night, February 5, the place to be is Route 196 where Puny, Flush and the Toilets, Kaze, The Discoball, Gaijin, and Top Junk will be rocking the night away. The B-Side Experiment happens at B-Side on the same night, featuring Red I, Don P, Caliph8, Timmy C, Dan the Natural and Soulflower. Entrance is free.
Shui Mo (Water & Ink) Traditional Chinese Painting Workshop
From January 29 to April 2, those with artistic genes can check out Shui Mo: Traditional Chinese painting workshop. Here, you’ll learn the fundamentals of traditional Chinese brush painting from holding the brush and basic strokes to style and artistic values. The workshop will be handled by Prof. Pieh Tsai Shiu Yuin, and will be held on Saturdays, 2 to 5 p.m at the Yuchengco Museum, RCBC Plaza, corner Ayala and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati City.
The workshop is open to participants 18 and above Workshop fee is P6,000, materials not included. Supplies can be purchased during the first class.
