Japan: Kingdom of Characters
Join the Japan Foundation, Manila, together with the Embassy of Japan, as they celebrate the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month this July with the traveling exhibition, “Japan: Kingdom of Characters.” Japan, among other things, is known for their anime and manga, and those two things will be the exhibit’s highlight.

The exhibit which opened on July 7 and will be running until August 20, will be hosted at the Tall Galleries in the Metropolitan Museum of Manila. Its stars: influential anime and manga characters. The exhibit will look into how these characters have gone on to influence societies, not just in Japan, but the whole world as well.

The exhibit is divided into three sections. The first part looks at the changes in Japanese society from the 1950’s to the present along with the characters that became popular in those decades. Some of these are Ultraman, Masked Rider and Mobile Suit Gundam, Pokemon and Tamagotchi

The second section, is a bit more girly as it features a faithful reproduction of a high-school girl’s room filled to the brim with Hello Kitty toys and other collectibles. The final section is called the “The Future of Characters,” which takes a peek at how characters will evolve in the future.
