According to Poe, she will assign Querubin as her anti-crime czar if she becomes elected as the country's next Chief Executive.
"Iniisip ng iba na kung ako ay magiging pangulo, hindi ko kaya sugpuin ang droga. Hindi po totoo yan. Ako ay magtatalaga ng isang crime czar na mapagkakatiwalaan at matapang. Si Colonel Ariel Querubin ang aking magiging crime czar."The name sounds familiar to some, but for most it just simply doesn't ring a bell. So here are some key facts about the country's next potential anti-crime czar:
Col. Querubin is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1979 and has since been exposed to battles against the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
He is credited for the neutralization of various ranking rebels including CPP-NPA chairman Jessie Rafael (1981), four MNLF commanders (1983), and both CPP-NPA commander Ka Ninong and MNLF commander Racquel Carreon (1988).
But in 1989, a young Captain Querubin spearheaded a bloody coup against President Corazon Aquino. The coup failed and he was incarcerated only to be pardoned by the next administration.
He re-entered military service after and was awarded the military's highest honor, the Medal of Valor for leading an operation against 300 members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Lanao del Norte back in 2000.
However, Querubin had another misunderstanding with the government in 2006 as he and fellow soldiers protested against the Arroyo administration.
As one of the country's most decorated soldiers, he resigned from uniformed service to chase a senatorial seat in the 2010 elections which he didn't get.
Col. Querubin is reportedly currently working for the San Miguel Corporation and has been supporting Poe in her campaign for the presidency.
