Going for the kill, before the world ends!

Going into the desert—the music fest is held at a Californian desert— is an experience that tortures and transforms. With temperatures soaring to 41C, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival is poised to become one of those experiences that will torture and transform. Seems like a perfect place to go for broke, to go for the kill, a good place for your last ditch effort.

Because the line-up is awesome. Witness: The Black Keys, Pulp, Mazzy Star, M83, Gary Clark Jr., The Rapture, Jimmy Cliff, Radiohead, Bon Iver, The Shins, Feist, Azealia Banks, Kaskade, David Guetta, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, Florence and the Machine, Justice, Wild Flag, Calvin Harris, AVICII, Gotye, Santigold, The Hives, Noel Gallagher… and on the goes goes clocking in at 140 artists. Five stages, 148 artists.

To see them 148 artists, however, you pay $350 for a three-day pass. $350, 148 artists, 5 stages. That’s like paying $2.77 for each artist. So not bad, to finally do something we’ve always done. And so booked the ticket, we did.

Alas it wasn’t so simple: there are airfares to save for (last we looked, airfare from Manila to Los Angeles is at $1630 or say, around P75,000) and logistics to think of (food! accommodation! transportation!). It almost sounds undoable, especially living with a freelancer’s paycheck. But this is exactly the plan: We are going for broke, aren't we?

Thankfully, the organizers went for broke this year, too. Instead of the usual three-day weekend, they doubled it up and went for two weekends. And they made the impossible happen: They brought Tupac up from the dead. Worth it? You bet.

Randall Roberts, a writer for the LA times said the festival was “a visual and sonic mess that we can't resist, one with so many spoken and unspoken messages delivered in so many subgenres that you wonder how anyone in attendance can contain it all.”

The answer is, you can’t. The dessert is immense, and the line-up is incredible and you are put back to your place, that is a single, lone person going for the kill.

Next: Get ready to complain
