Yesterday, thousands of Filipinos gathered to commemorate the 45th anniversary of then-president Ferdinand Marcos’ declaration of Martial Law. An (estimated) crowd of 30,000 also assembled to protest against the extra-judicial killings under President Rodrigo Duterte’s so-called war on drugs. Dubbed the #NationalDayOfProtest, the event saw citizens come together, hoping for change.
Activists, musicians, artists, celebrities, politicians, indigenous people, church leaders, and more attended the staged rallies in various spots, which then converged around 4PM in Luneta, Manila. Despite the threats and the bad weather, attendees were in high spirits all throughout the program.
Here are some of the most powerful images of the memorable day:
Everyone stood up and raised their placards to fight for their beliefs and denounce the administration's fascist war on drugs.
