Prepare yourselves, ladies and gents. This may be the saddest thing you’ll ever hear about playing video games. And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with your mom unplugging your console to stop you.
Back in May 2018, a guy by the name of Tyler Schultz tweeted the team behind Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man game a request. And it was the gutsiest and probably sweetest thing a gamer could do.
To his delight, Insomniac Games replied to his tweet asking if he’s sure his girlfriend doesn’t check his Twitter. He answered with "100%." One important thing the team also asked was if he can wait until September 7th, the date for which the game will be released. Tyler confidently answered with “We’ve just past our five years in April so I think she’ll still be around in September.”
First off, Insomniac Games just earned our respect for being the greatest wingman in gaming history. They tweeted, “Well okay then. Who are we to say ‘no’ to love?”
And the gaming company kept their promise and didn’t disappoint. If you have the game, go to this intersection now.
On a marquee in one of the theaters in the game, you will see the saddest Easter egg in gaming history.
Looking at it, of course, it doesn’t sound depressing. It’s actually quite sweet, and if you were the girlfriend of this guy, you’d probably say ‘yes’ in a snap. (Too soon?)
But brace yourselves and get those tissue boxes. It’s okay to cry even if you’re a guy. We’re here for you.
Weeks before the game was released, Tyler’s girlfriend dumped him. And not just flat-out broke up with him, she then got in a relationship with (drum roll please) his brother! Well, half-brother.
Here’s the YouTube video Tyler made to explain the easter egg:
Madison Gamble, the girlfriend, decided to give a statement about the viral issue especially since she’s being harassed and threatened on social media. She said that the relationship soured some time ago and that it became a “mother and son relationship” where she had to remind him about things, “deal with his financial mistakes,” and his “verbal outbursts.”
She added, “The things he has been saying about me hurt and that is something we mutually agreed not to do to each other, but it is not being reciprocated now... I think it’s just easier for him to hate me than to be hurt by my decision to break up. I hope he moves on and finds happiness because that’s exactly what I am doing.”
Of the proposal she said, “[...] he thought [the proposal] was the save all of our relationship [but it] was never the way I would have like to be proposed to. I never liked video games, but I sat through them because I loved him.”
As far as his half-brother goes, Maddie said that Tyler had asked his brother to check in on her and ask her how she was doing after she broke up with him. They got close, and their relationship just built from there.
“I did not leave Tyler for his half-brother and I have never been unfaithful to Tyler.”
There’s no side to pick here. It may be sad to see when a woman refuse a proposal, but she has every right to do so, even if it means breaking someone’s heart into a million pieces. And she shouldn’t have to get harassed and ridiculed because of it. As a man, you have to be able to accept it.
