Nice to have you again! Outside of the league, what keeps you busy these days?
When I’m not inside the playing court, I’m managing my milk tea business. Currently, I’m busy with my business expansion. Aside from that, I do courtside reporting for volleyball games and hosting for some events, depending on my schedule. And if it’s off-season for volleyball, I travel a lot. I like nature tripping. I’m a beach bum!

So that explains why you seemed at home on this location. And judging from the game you had against us a while ago, you sure don’t mind sand getting into where it shouldn’t be…
Nah! I just focus on the game. I clean up the mess after the business. Ha ha!

People know you for your game face during your matches, especially during your stint in the UAAP. Is perfecting it also part of your training routine?
Ha ha! People see me as a very serious player and I’m known for being these three Ms: mataray, matapang, and mayabang. A little harsh, right? I just need to step up for my team. I was desperate to win every game because I wanted a happy ending in the UAAP and most of all, it’s a lifetime honor to win championship titles for my alma mater.

Do you think volleyball is about to become the next “big thing” in sports? As compared with the undying fandom for basketball and the recent popularity of football?
Absolutely, yes! Volleyball nowadays has evolved and improved so much. It’s more commercialized now, which is really a good thing. Games are more intense and they keep the viewers craving for more action. And of course, admit it, we have a lot of beautiful and lovable volleybelles!

How did you feel about the first season of the Philippine Super Liga?
It was my first time to play last December, when we had import players from different countries. It was so competitive, all the players were so good—especially the imports. My God, nakaka-star-struck and nakaka-nerbiyos! It felt like I was playing in an international competition, ha ha!

We played a boys vs. girls game on the beach and we know that you took it easy on us. In a real game with real…err…men, who do you think would win?
Magyayabang sana ako, but I think it will be the men’s team that would win, ha ha! Iba pa rin maglaro ang lalaki and mas malakas naman talaga sila, but I assure you that it will be a close fight, ha ha!

Do you think volleyball is about to become the next “big thing” in sports?
Yes, I think it will be. From a player’s point of view, volleyball has caught the attention of many sports fanatics—it’s visible in the way they support the commercial leagues in the Philippines, like the PSL. Aside from that, we can also credit the popularity of the sport to former players and athletes who have encouraged their children to get into the sport, as well as all the schools all over the country for giving their own volleyball programs the support they need.

How did you feel about the first season of the Super Liga?
Being able to play in this league was such a great honor because I was able to play with people who I don’t just watch on TV, but idolize as well. The spectators are also great; they give all the players the added push to play our best.

I really think that volleyball is not just a game of strength but it also takes what they call gulang. Sometimes you don’t have to be the strongest player on the court to gain a point, but you also need to play smart. That’s why I would say that both teams would have an equal chance of winning.
