You were the Ultimate Female Survivor of StarStruck Season 2. Can you reacquaint us with how you got into show business?
I really wasn’t supposed to audition, dapat yung cousin ko. But my cousin was only 15 and nalaman naming hindi siya makakapasok because of her age. I was 16 and could audition so pumila pa rin kami. I really didn’t want to at first but my aunt insisted. Ayaw ko kasi mahiyain talaga ako. But then my brother talked to me and said, “Wala namang mawawala kung subukan mo.” So I did. The auditions were already in the final stages, hindi na ako pumila nang mahaba.

So showbiz wasn’t exactly what you planned to get into.
No. I really wanted to be an engineer or a dentist. Ngayon, gusto kong maging chef, to go into culinary arts because mahilig akong magluto. Siyempre masaya ako [after StarStruck]. Bihira lang yung nabibigyan ng ganung opportunity.

Our readers have always wondered why it was taking you so long to take the cover.
I have had sexy roles. Naging kabit na ako. Naging GRO na rin ako. So wala naman sa akin talaga yun [ang pagse-sexy]. The issue was posing for a men’s magazine. I felt like I wasn’t ready. Kumbaga yung katawan ko, parang pang-nene pa. Hindi pa swak sa look ng magazine. Baka magmukhang pilit. So I wanted to be ready if ever I was going to pursue it.

And the deciding factor this time was?
I feel like I’m a late bloomer, that my body is just now reaching its womanly potential. My body is only now developing. Before, even off-cam, I couldn’t wear a two-piece suit.

So it was a confidence issue.
Medyo. Medyo ganun na nga. Oo, ha ha!

We understand you’re good friends with two-time cover girl LJ Reyes. Did she give you any advice prior to doing this?
Hindi niya alam! Kasi laging ginaganyan din kami [friends Chynna Ortaleza and Isabel Oli] niyan eh! Yung i-su-surprise! She never tells us about her sexy shoots so I didn’t tell her as well.

So you want to surprise your friends?
Oo. Para ma-feel niya yung na-feel namin, ha ha! Yung tipong, “What? Bakit hindi niya sa amin sinasabi eh magkasama lang kami, hindi man lang niya nabanggit na magpo-pose siya."

But we saw during the shoot that you were very natural at steaming up the lenses.
Before our shoot I decided to have a photo session of my own. Parang warm-up shoot, ha ha! Sexy rin yung peg, yung mga layout. We hired a photographer friend so I’m actually used to doing things like this.

One of your biggest and steamiest TV roles was in Machete. The Machete character is known for being “batak. ” Is this the type of body you look for in a partner?
No. [I like] chubby and simple guys. Ayoko yung nag-wo-work out. Kasi feeling ko if he hugged me, parang mamamatay ako, ha ha! Attitude and personality are what’s important to me. Being responsible, having a sense of humor, and being a gentleman also factor in. It becomes more romantic when the guy cooks for the girl.

You seem more like the traditional type who likes to be courted through gestures.
Of course! Gusto ko hinaharana ako. Joke! Ha ha! Gusto ko yung kikilalanin niya ako. I mean, ayaw ko nung, “O, tayo na.” It has to be done step-by-step. First, since we really don’t know each other, we need to start out as friends. And then, maybe best friends. Then who knows, he might turn into a special friend or boyfriend.
