"As a naturopathic doctor, I believe that you should treat your body like a temple," says Dani, also the owner of Danielle Castaño Slimming and Wellness Spa, who not coincidentally is writing a book about beauty and wellness at the moment. "Looking and feeling great is all about how you discipline yourself. You can’t really do too much of anything."

Hi, Dani. It’s been a while. What are you busy with, aside from making humans look beautiful and live longer?

I’m also doing some work with Viva also for shows and hosting events, and with SLEx and NLEx as one of the ambassadors of the Skyway safety road campaign.

With those billboards, you sure have been doing a great job at slowing motorists down on the highways!
Ha ha ha! But mostly I’ve been keeping myself busy with my slimming and wellness spa and making new programs for our clients. I’m training professional people, like registered nurses and certified therapists. I would like to focus on our wellness services because I want people to be aware or to be able to do some preventive treatments before they get to have fatal diseases, and it’s too late.

We know you’ve always been all about fitness and wellness. We can imagine how painful your workouts are from your Instagram posts…
I enjoy the challenge and pain when it comes to fitness. I’ve always been athletic since I was a kid. I love to exercise. I’m really adventurous and I like trying new things when it comes to sports!

Which is quite a given, because you were a track and field varsity in high school.
Yup, track and field and cross country in Hoover High in Glendale, California. That’s where I grew up before moving to the Philippines in 2007. I enjoy running a lot! It’s like my stress reliever and it helps me boost my self-esteem.

What other activities are you into now?
Muay Thai, Pilates, yoga, plyometrics, hiking, rock climbing—anything that will make me sweat! The harder it gets, the more I try to push myself. As of now what I mostly do is run, swim, and bike. I’m following a program from my triathlon coach now and I am really enjoying it. It’s really important to love and enjoy what you’re doing so that at the end of the day, before you go to bed, you can say that you’re satisfied and content. I can’t wait for more positive things to come in my life.

Are you training for anything in particular?
I join races, mostly on Sundays, before but now I’m currently training for an upcoming triathlon. It’s my first triathlon ever! It really takes a lot of discipline but I enjoy it.

Good luck with that! So, no “I’m doing it for myself” shtick, really?
Of course, I’m also doing this for myself. Ha ha! Being healthy should be part of your overall lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle by working out and eating right can help prevent chronic diseases and long-term illnesses. What you feed your body will affect you in the long run so better to feed it right.

Are we talking about quarter-pounder burgers, rib-eye steaks, and chicharon? Because that to us is how "feeding our body right" sounds like.
Fat itself is not bad. What’s actually "bad" is having too much of it in your diet. Diets too high in fats and cholesterol are blamed for heart disease and certain cancers.

Actually, fat is needed by the body because besides being a major source of energy, it serves as transport and storage for fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Fat supplies the essential fatty acids like linoleic acid, which is necessary for proper growth and healthy skin. We also need protein, carbohydrates, sugar, and dairy.

If we raided your kitchen, what would we find in it?
I have to have peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If I don’t, that would be a problem, ha ha! I also have boiled eggs, cottage cheese, and meat—I only eat fish and lamb. Lamb is warm when you digest it, so you digest it faster. There’s also oatmeal, mangoes, chia seeds, and Greek yoghurt. And I freeze my fruits—bananas, grapes, strawberries for my shakes!

Will following your diet make us better in bed?
Feeling good about yourself and taking care of your health are important for your self-esteem and self-image. Maintain a healthy lifestyle by doing what is right for your body type. I also believe that in order for a person to be healthy they should be happy physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, and socially. Make a plan or a schedule and by that you'll be able to balance everything in your life.

What’s the one, all-time super useful tip you can give men who want to look better in their underwear?
Ha ha! Having a structured schedule with your daily life with training, work, and all the things that keep you motivated in life. Having a routine a goal and most of all discipline is they key.

On the other hand, what fitness myth should we all stop believing?
That lifting heavy makes girls bulk up. It won’t!

Why do sweaty girls seem so appealing, anyway?
Really? Maybe because they look strong. I have no clue! Ha ha!

Are gym hook-ups ever possible? Because they say we shouldn’t ever hit on a girl at a gym.
It’s a free country! If you think you’re doing the right thing, then why not! Do what you want. You only live once!  

YOLO! Would you hook up with a man who eats nothing but salads?
Personally, I like a man that can eat because I Iove food. I’m a really chill girl. You can take me to a hole-in-the-wall—as long as you’re cool and we share the same interests and you can make me laugh and be silly around with, I’m cool with that! I’m not too picky. Simple things make me happy as long as they’re from the heart. I like making people feel happy. So if a man wants to eat salads for his whole entire life, let him be! I respect that.

Lastly, is sex better before or after a workout?
People have there own opinions about that. I’d like to keep my answer to myself!
